England rule India!

The number 153 to haunt us again.

And England showed us how to defend.

CONGRATS ENGLAND!!

Now the knives come out.

:-)

32 Maidens bowled!!:

Mahek said...

It was a collective failure.

Bad bowling, bad fielding, bad batting.

First the Aussies get dumped out. Then India LOSE to England. Can't have a more depressing T20 WC.

I better whisper it softly ' go Black Caps' :-)

As to the match - Punjab da Puttars lost it for India :-) Those two ' five' wides buggered it up.

Well even one ' 5 wide' was OK. But Yuvraj's slip up in the last over cost India eventually the match.

Funny that MSD had a decent MSD batting role, but once again his choice of Jadeja for two down , would be dug deep into.

Ah well - can look forward to the ' Ashes' in three weeks time to shut the gloating Poms at work tomorrow !

That line sounds right off from Azhar's mouth, each time India loses :-)

Mahek said...

It sums it up pretty well though :P

achettup said...

No Mahek, the bowling wasn't half bad. 153 was about 15-20 short of what England should have gotten. Poor Jadeja, not really his fault... I'm not going to blame anyone in particular, like a certain skipper, because certain bloggers get urm... touchy, when I do :P

Mahek said...

Ishant Sharma bowled badly throughout. Zaheer Khan bowled badly. Harbhajan gave away 5 wides in each of his last two overs. If that isn't bad then I'm Tom Cruise.

achettup said...

I think you'll find Yuvraj was the only bowler who conceded over ten an over, generally an indicator in T20 of bad bowling. So I disagree, yes there were a few bad deliveries but overall the bowling performance wasn't half bad.
Maybe its all this Scientology crap you're into?

Mahek said...

Scientology? I wonder if you know what it means because if you did you'd have known I have nothing to do with it.

If you think Ishant's bowling wasn't bad then so be it. Bowlers not finding the block hole, spinners darting wides down the leg side with the fine leg up. Damn...even Warne and McGrath would be put to shame with such bowling.

Blunder 1: Won toss and fielded. Why? U think england stood a chance had India posted 165+? never!

Blunder 2: RP bowled 3 overs for 13 and Ishant bowled full quote of 4. Logic?

Blunder 3: Jadeja at 4. So far the strategy was 1 accumulator + 1 dasher, what happened to that?

Blunder 4: When Jadgeja got out, Dhoni walked in. Why not YP?

Too many screw ups that could have been easily avoided.

Oh, oh, I knew all those snickers we sent England's way when they lost to the Dutch would come back some day to bite us, but like this? Who would have thought?

On the bright side, the next T20 World Cup is only a year away, so we don't have to wait too long to redeem ourselves - or as the case might be, to humiliate ourselves again.

But hey, it's Twenty20 after all. It's not REAL cricket! :-)

Sharath said...

And yes, we certainly did miss Sehwag.

Tifosi Guy said...

Sharath

Tomorrow is going to be so hard for me to head to work. If only I had kept my mouth shut during THAT loss to Netherlands :-)

As to the Sehwag issue - well as good teams, you need to have more than one player for one position. India did seem to have Rohit covering that role - till the story of short pitch bowling came to haunt India !!!!

It was hilarious to see Luke Wright bowl short pitch and our guys look like deer in headlight.

If ever there was a ' pie chucker' he was one, and yet he comes up tops !!!

One shambolic tournament it's turned out into..

Sharath said...

You live in England, TG? I feel for you.

In New Zealand, no one really cares about cricket that much. So I can get away with gloating when India wins and keeping my mouth shut when we lose.

Though I did get a few irritating text messages from some of my Lankan friends early this morning. Now I want ANYONE BUT SRI LANKA to win the damn tournament.

Go Pakistan...?

Tifosi Guy said...

Sharath

Yep am based in UK, albeit thankfully not near London. That would make heading to work tomorrow worse. Based in the North - East, where soccer is more popular than cricket, but still some gloating Poms I'll meet tomorrow !

I'm afraid despite my wishes , the horror final for me would occur. SL vs S Af !

Ideally if NZ beat SL, then SL are out. Don't see that happening though.

Ah bugger it - Aus lost, India are out, whatever interest I had now is all gone.

I can't wait for July 8'th to come soon enough.. Then within a few weeks Nasser Hussain would shut his trap for a while with the thumping from the Aussies !

Leela said...

Mahek,

Yup.
And bad team selection.
In my mind they should have played with the same team as last time, except RP for Ishant.

Leela said...

TG,

I am officially not watching anymore.
No really.
Yes.
:-(

Leela said...

ache,

Thanks for not blaming...
:-)

Leela said...

Q,

I am still wondering why Ishant bowled his quota of 4.
:-(

Leela said...

Sharath,

I totally agree; T20 is not real cricket.
I never really took it seriously.
Promise.
:P

Leela said...

NC,

Not knives, swords.

Uh oh!

1. Unnecessarily occupying the No. 3 slot just to revive his own form may have suited Dhoni but not Raina and the team;
2. You try innovations when regular things don't work. MSD went out-of-the-box just for the heck and sake of it;
3. MSD behind the stumps doesn't really oooze confidence of the bowlers/fielders. In every match, he misses at least one catch/stump/run out chances. Just not done especially when you expect others to set a hallmark.

Leela said...

Som,

1. I think the strategy was that if GG got out MSD would replace him, since both were playing similar roles.

2. Agreed.

3. Not sure.

At least we are not embarrassing ourselves with effigy burning, stone throwing and what else. OK there were couple of morons in Ranchi but apart from that its pretty quite here !!thankfully

Leela said...

IP,

:-)

Tifosi Guy said...

I just can't be more happier. The damn Poms are OUT. Nasser Hussain can now cry into his milk :-) and get ready for the next sobbing session come the Ashes

Leela said...

TG,

LOL.
I missed the match, hitting replay right now.

:-)

YAY!

Tifosi Guy said...

Leela

' TG,

Yes.
:-(
'

So Why you hitting the replay button ;-)

What made this even sweeter to see -

1) D-L method ( by the Poms no less) stuffed it up for them

2) Broad - the great English hope along with Anderson - stuffed it up for them.

Now only if NZ can sneak a win against SL.

Now now, shouldn't get too greedy...

Leela said...

TG,

See "officially" I am not watching.
However when "my" teams win, I will hit replay.
;-)

LOL.

Leela,
Our gut feeling on Sharma (unfortunately) was justified.
What perplexes me is that Raina and Sharma who, I am told, did very well in the IPL, were not utilized to slow things down.

Oh well, from time to time it is nice to give everyone (fans, players, adminitrators, etc.) a reality check and I don't mind it coming in an annual event, as opposed to a once-in-4-years event.

So, are you now shifting your focus to Wimbledon then?

Jaunty Quicksand said...

Naturally, the "disappointing" Sharma from the previous post is Ishant, while the under-utilized Sharma is Rohit.

Leela said...

JQ,

Yup, Ishant should've been kept away as we discussed.
:-(

I know, even I was wondering why Raina & Sharma weren't tried.
Oh well.

Once in 4 yrs or not, at least this shd tell the IPL ppl that it should not be a twice a year event.

No, staying away from the Wimbeldon.
Except for cricket, not much into sports.
:-)
